Thankfulness

Monday, November 30th, 2009

The week away from school was much needed, and I cannot even begin to explain how much my time at home meant to me.  Many things can be taken away from the week, but I feel the most important thing centered around the being humbled by realizing all the great people that God has put in my life. Limbo

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Lately I’ve really been in limbo mode.  Everyone knows how ready I am to graduate and move on with life, but at the same time I sometimes think I’m rushing too much and not quite ready for the so called real world.  The last few years have really gone by fast, and this semester seems to have gone by even faster.  While I love the fact that I am almost finished with my last fall semester of college ever, I’m also finding myself wishing time would slow down so I could enjoy and soak in all the great things around me here at A&M.  Life has really been treating me well as of late.  My grades are good and I feel positive about the direction I am heading in life. Winning Out West

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

The Aggies went out to Lubbock this past weekend as an underdog to the high-octane Tech offense.  We were able to put on an offensive show of our own winning 52-30.  I am hoping we can continue winning as we host Iowa State this weekend.  I’ve been very inconsistent writing this fall.  It seems like just as I finish one group project, another is assigned.  Since I last wrote, we had a pretty big deal happen on campus.

President Obama was invited to speak by President George H. W. Bush.  I was able to watch it on tv, and must say that man can speak.  (more…)

Putting Things in Perspective

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Leading up to today, I was not sure if I would be able to post a blog this week.  I’ve had a busy week with tests, papers, and projects, and it’s only Wednesday.  Bow season opens this weekend, and I don’t think I’m even going to be able to make it home because of such a busy week next week.  Needless to say, I’ve been a bit stressed with school and life throughout the week.  As I was looking at my list of things to do and wishing that the weekend would hurry and get here, I decided to take a break from studying and watch some sportcenter. Fall is Here

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

The semester is four weeks old, the weather is changing, football season is in for force, and life is good.  The past couple of days, I’ve seen a dramatic drop in temperature.  Nothing can beat driving with the windows slightly cracked enjoying cooler weather.  I love cold and rainy weather.  People may view me as being weird for that since most love the hot and sunny so called “pretty days,” but I just love those dark, dreary days.  This is a trait inherited directly from my dad.  We love cold and rainy days that set us up to do many things.  Something about that kind of weather brings animals out in bunches which makes for excellent hunting conditions.  It’s also great weather to lay around and enjoy some football. The End of the Beginning

Monday, September 7th, 2009

The 2009 fall semester is under way and so far running smooth.  I could not be happier with my classes here at Texas A&M.  A major plus is that all five of them are in Mays keeping me in the same building at all times.  I am also starting to appreciate the differential tuition that we pay as business majors.  Differential tuition is put into place in order to allow smaller class sizes.  I questioned this during the spring when I had two classes with over four hundred students.  However, I am reaping the benefits now.  My class sizes range from only eleven students in one of my classes to just twenty students in my largest class.  The question can I handle this class is no longer running through my head.  I now find myself thinking I am going to make A’s in here!  The teachers aren’t looking to fail you, but instead looking to mold you into a person who will succeed in the real world and achieve great things.  Throughout this first week, I’ve felt a great deal of accomplishment for making it this far.  The classes are also no longer based solely on test grades.  A large amount of our grades come from group interaction and presentations. Dog Days of August

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

I cannot believe that it is already the month of August.  Christmas 2008 feels like yesterday as does spring break 2009, and now summer 2009 is suddenly coming to an end.  Although I’ve done mostly just summer school, it has still been a good and rewarding few months.  I have been able to knock out a few classes, some of which are extremely tough, and I’ve also got to do things that I never seem to have time for during the semester here in Aggieland.

Summer Neglection

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I have neglected writing this summer to say the least.  No matter what I do, it just seems like I do not have enough time in the day to get things done with these fast paced summer classes.  Summer Two has come and gone extremely fast.  With just a week and a half to go, I am really looking forward to getting a few weeks off before getting things started back up again at the end of August.  One of the classes that I am currently taking is my favorite class that I have taken at A&M.  Finance 371 with Ed Elmore.  Elmore practices law here in College Station, and he really knows how to relate the material to students.  I have been successful in this class, mostly because I am interested in the things that we are covering.  Things like contracts, leases, land valuation, and just land deals in general.  I could really see myself pursuing this type of a career. Back From My Absence

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

It has been quite some time since I was able to write to all of you.  This summer school thing really doesn’t play around.  In the beginning of this summer session, things were hard, yet they were also smooth all at the same time thanks to the best teacher I have ever had.  He is not only my favorite teacher that I’ve had in college, but probably my favorite that I have had period.  His name is Dr. John Tanner, and he recently experienced a great deal of misfortune.  Tanner is a visiting professor from University of Louisiana Lafayette.  He comes to A&M each summer to teach a couple of different classes in the Information System Department.  The class that I am taking is INFO 305.  Many consider this to be one of the toughest classes they take while at Mays.  I had been advised to take this class during the summer since it is condensed, and because of Tanner’s amazing way of teaching tough material that may not be very appealing.  A few years back, Tanner was in his office in Louisiana when someone attempted to rob him and proceeded to cut his throat.  Tanner kept his composure by holding pressure on the wound until paramedics arrived, and he was back teaching the following day.  He used this as an example to us in class which made so much sense to me.  Just when you think you have it tough, consider the fact that you could be holding your life in your hand while waiting for medical attention to arrive.  When he told us this story, I knew this man was a warrior, and an amazingly inspirational person. Ghost Town

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

I have seen a dramatic change in the town of College Station.  The place that normally has me catching several red lights, sometimes twice before I make it through has suddenly turned into a ghost town.

Speaking of red lights, the people who are putting up the red light cameras are trying to trick us.  I was gone for all of about two weeks between spring semester and summer school, and when I got back I started noticing all the new additions of cameras.  Many of us like to be on camera, but I think I speak for everyone when I say this is one form of unwanted publicity.  Just a heads up for all you drivers in this area.  No one wants to throw away 75 bucks just like that.  Trust me, I know from experience!  Aside from that, it’s great that I can leave ten minutes before class starts and make it there on time thanks to less traffic.

While I noticed a decrease in cars through town, it really hit me when I got to school.  Parking is much easier, there is a considerable less amount of people within the campus, and the business school might as well be empty.  The usual packed Wehner Building has nearly no one there.  I was walking through the hall last week and I think about only three or four classes are going on at one time on the bottom floor.  Some people may miss all the other students which of course I miss my friends who are gone home for summer, but it is great at times to have a break from the crowd.
