The 12 Ne’er Forgotten

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

“We will remember them as long as there is a Texas A&M and Aggie spirit, and that, my friends, is forever.”

- Gov. Rick Perry ‘72

Last Wednesday marked the tenth anniversary of the bonfire collapse at Texas A&M. Twelve students lost their lives, while twenty-seven others were injured. Several events were held on Tuesday that ended with a Candlelight Vigil at 2:42 a.m., the time of the collapse. (more…)

Technology Fads in the Classroom

Monday, November 16th, 2009

We live in a very complicated world where new technology is available every day. When I first came to college, I thought that I could stay in my bubble and avoid all of the new fads, but I was wrong.  There are many technology fads college students are going through that are actually useful in the classroom. (more…)

Rules of the Road

Monday, November 9th, 2009

College students pay some of the highest car insurance premiums. You would think that people from this age group would be among the best drivers. With youth usually comes better reaction times and better vision, but most students will either be involved in an accident or receive a ticket during their academic careers. Perhaps at some point while we were learning how to book an impairment loss for discontinued operations, we forgot that a red light means stop. I feel it is my civic duty to reiterate a few forgotten rules of the road. (more…)

Disadvantaged?

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Recently I received a scholarship and, like any college student, I was excited that I wouldn’t have to pay as much for my education. After I received the scholarship, I went to the sponsor’s website to learn a little bit more about them. I discovered that the purpose of the scholarship was to “help disadvantaged college students.” I have never thought of myself as disadvantaged. This led me to wonder who truly is disadvantaged. Lumberjack for a Weekend

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

This week has been pretty interesting to say the least. I believe that it was the busiest week I have ever had in college thus far. I had two test, two quizzes, a presentation, a case study, an application due, and an interview. Needless to say, I did not have much free time. After five days of pure studying, I needed a fun and relaxing weekend, so I went to Nacogdoches to see one of my friends. (more…)

Conquering Your Fears

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Sometimes in life we have to do things that we don’t want to do. I don’t like public speaking, so I try to avoid it. After taking my Business 205 class over the summer, I realized that I’m not too bad of a public speaker; I just lack confidence. This is going to be a problem in the professional world, so I am starting to face my fear. Last week was Days at Mays, which is a day for high school seniors to take a tour of the business school and learn about all of the opportunities available through Texas A&M. I signed up to be a member of the student panel that talks in front of the students and their parents. (more…)

“Colder than a Box of Penguins”

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

I don’t remember who said this metaphor, but it seems to accurately describe the weather last week. Texans are not used to the cold, so when it is about fifty degrees outside, we get our parkas out of the closet, put on some gloves, and look as if we are prepared for a blizzard. I even saw one girl wearing a scarf (I didn’t even know they sell those in the south). (more…)

Visitors? More like the Home Team

12th Man Towel…check

Game ticket…check

Camera…check

Umbrella…uh oh!

This week wasn’t your typical Aggie football game. We played the Razorbacks at the new Dallas Cowboy’s stadium. Being both an avid Aggie and Cowboys football fan, I felt the trip to Arlington was more of a pilgrimage than a three hour road trip. (more…)

Too Late for the Vaccine

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

It is very easy to notice the extra precautions around campus. In the bathrooms there are signs that remind you to always wash your hands. In every dining facility there are huge jugs of hand sanitizer and people are actually using them. If you cough or sneeze in class, you will notice there are many empty seats around you in order to create a buffer from the biohazard. I regret to say that I was careless and I have in fact caught the… study abroad bug. (more…)

I Don’t Know…What Do You Want to Do?

Monday, September 21st, 2009

I am the kind of person who likes to plan his entire week ahead of time. Ever since I started college, I have kept a planner that maps out everything I need to do. Without it I would be completely lost. On Friday the only thing I had written down in my planner was a dinner with some friends. After that there was just blank space… (more…)
