World peace and…Ron Paul? Really?

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

At this point, I shouldn’t be surprised when my life takes me to random places. You would think I’d be used to it, and yet, I still am baffled at the places I end up without even trying. One of those times happened this Saturday at the Amnesty International Texas State meeting.

When life gives you limones….

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

This past weekend was full of surprises, serious frustrations, ups and downs, but most importantly….lessons. If you have ever read one of these before, you know I spend most every weekend in Nuevo Laredo doing work at an orphanage and at surrounding areas that are very poor. After almost a year of consistent trips, we have never had anything but amazing trips full of fellowship, rewarding work, and lots of laughs. (more…)

Camera time!

November 2007

Knowing myself all too well, I invested in the extended warranty for my camera that I bought myself after high school graduation. It has been a great camera, and able to keep up with me most of the time, but there were some definite blunders such as when my best friend accidentally dropped it into the Gulf of Mexico. But hey- I know my lifestyle, which is why I invested in the warranty. (more…)

Life is beautiful

It’s so sweet to have friends.

I came back around 6 last night (after one PHENOMENAL trip–more on the later) knowing that I hadn’t cleaned as much as I’d wanted to, didn’t have groceries for the week, and hadn’t worked out in two very munchy, chocolatey days. My friend Andrea showed up at my door, gave a cute little rhythmic knock, came in and helped me clean. Now, if that’s not love, I’m not sure what is. She vacuumed, hung up clothes, took out trash…the works–all without being asked. And, as if that weren’t enough, she walked with me from West Campus Garage and didn’t abandon me when I started singing, skipping, and pretending to be the main character in Enchanted. When we came back, we ran into a friend who wants to live together next year, and just had a really sweet, encouraging conversation about the good things that are going on in the world. There are so many! (more…)

Seattle tomorrow

Two words: SEATTLE TOMORROW!

I’m so excited. My morning has consisted of trying on every business professional outfit I own, deciding whether a new suit I bought is blue or black (I used to make fun of my mom for this–the tables have turned) and a whole lot of catching up on ‘Lost’ in the meantime.

I have several things to do between now and tomorrow including (but no, no, not limited to) making notecards for the FIVE tests I have next week, cleaning out my dorm room and car, and washing some towels so I won’t come back with anything on my mind but how much fun I had! Once I get everything packed up, I’m not sure I’ll be able to sleep tonight. In case it didn’t come through the first time, I’ll say it again: I am SO excited!

It’s been almost 5 years since my mom, dad, middle sister and I went to Seattle, and that is officially TOO LONG! I am pumped about going back. It is, hands down, one of my favorite cities I’ve seen. We went on a four day weekend in October, right as the leaves were changing…incredible. The whole landscape looked technicolor, and it was one of those vacations where there was -enough- to do, but not so much that, like Disney World, it felt like we needed a strategic game plan just to see it all. Both are fun, but that Starbucks-y, foggy weather in a coastal city “feel” is just wonderful in the winter time. The city is so clean, too!

Mmm. I’ll write more–and maybe include pictures, if I can figure out how–when I get back on Sunday!

All you need is love…and lots of DVDs

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Two weeks ago, I was waiting in eager anticipation for classes to end so that I could run to the nearest Hastings to buy my very own copy of Julie Taymor’s amazing film Across the Universe, a movie that I had been dying to own since seeing it in theatres. I had even bought the special edition soundtrack to the movie mere hours after seeing the film.

Imagine my chagrin, then, to discover that not only was the Hastings in College Station sold out of my dreamboat DVD, everywhere else in College Station was too! Saddened by the news, it seemed to add hours to my already long almost birthday countdown. Determined to find a way to pull through my misery, I perused the burgeoning racks of DVDs and walked out of the store a few dollars shorter than when I came in. (more…)

The Precursor to “Hello?”

What does your ringtone say about you?

While this may seem like a silly question, I believe that it is one of merit, and worth considering.

It is ridiculous the substantial amount of time I have spent in my life listening to, contemplating, discussing and deciding on a particular ringtone. In one sense, it is an important decision; you will hear it often, so you have to determine the endurance factor. At some point, it will get stuck in your head and the heads of others around you. Soon your friends, families, and acquaintances will associate the sound of the ringtone with you as an individual. It is a big decision to make. (more…)

raindrops on roses…

Friday, February 15th, 2008

life is beautiful because:

the sun shines down on me and the rain makes flowers grow no matter how i perform on the thousand-and-one “tests” of virtue i encounter everyday. my great success or painful failure, while important, does not affect everything.

tea is a good alternative to coffee–and cheaper, too.

with enough energy, i can run to research park and dream of getting a golden retriever puppy.

Tiaras at 21

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

If you saw a random girl walking around Wehner yesterday in a tiara…that was probably me. Yesterday I turned 21, and my roommate had great fun with it, forcing me to wear a tiara made for a 6 year old that boasted the words “birthday girl” in bright purple glitter, under the threat of not receiving my present. It was an interesting experience, to be sure. (more…)

Under The Weather

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

I can’t remember the last time I felt as ill as I have this week. It started off with just a headache and some aches and pains in my muscles. But, as the week has progressed, I have felt worse and worse. I have taken all the appropriate medicines, have tried to get as much rest as possible, and have been drinking water nonstop. Yet, the illness will not subside. (more…)
