After this past weekend, I now can finally say that I’ve been to Dallas. Dallas is a pretty cool place, I really don’t know what took me so long!
I went with other members of my sorority’s executive board to Southern Methodist University for an officer training program for all the chapters in Texas.

Reading an article in Fortune magazine entitled “How to Manage your Business in a Recession” for Strategic Management, it was as if I started to realize that this credit crisis, sub-prime mortgage bust, dramatic recession and all around economic soap opera was a metaphor for my life. But I challenge you not to look at these events as setbacks, but more as prop-ups.
The article articulated that these events are unusual because they have never happened before- at least not to this degree of severity. There is no script, no set of advised, practiced instructions to best handle the situation; we have to learn, we have to be creative, we have to make it up. We are going to make mistakes, but we are going to learn from them. (more…)

Three things that are guaranteed in life; death, taxes, and admission to Texas Tech University. No matter how much we fear it, eventually all of our lives will come to a close. It’s up to us to leave a legacy that we want others to remember. Everyone deals with death a different way. Some greatly struggle to get over the loss of a love one. When my time comes, I hope that people aren’t sitting around being sad, but instead hope that they are celebrating a life that was lived to the fullest and talking about the good ole times that they had with me. School is back in session. Winter break was fun, but honestly I was starting to miss school and my dorm. I never thought that I would say that I missed school, but I actually did. After a couple of months of school I am sure that I will be ready for a break again. This semester I have a dream schedule. It’s not that I have easy classes, but rather I don’t have any eight a.m classes. (more…)

From I have a dream, to pinching yourself, realizing that you are awake.
There was a predicted four million people present, and billions around the world watching the National Mall in Washington D.C. as Barack Obama, the forty fourth President of the United States, recited the oath of office. I was located next to the Washington Monument; If you’re looking at a shot from the Capitol Building, I’m the one slightly to the right of the monument in the black hat… J

I wish I could think of a more creative title. But that has basically been what this whole week has been about.
I got back to College Station Sunday night … 5 hours later than planned.
I could not be more glad to be back ! Going abroad was encouraging unhealthy sleeping habits and staying at home was encouraging unhealthy eating habits.

First off, I want to apologize for neglecting to post a blog over the last few weeks. I’m sure all of you lost so much sleep at night over it. I’d like to start things by reflecting more about Christmas break. What a great time it was with all the people that I love and care about. I did not do anything that was out of the ordinary but enjoyed having time off to relax from the rigorous schedule that I endured during the fall semester. Now it is back to business here in College Station with my sights set high towards solid grades this semester. It is not just the grades I am worried about, however. I feel like I have evolved as a person over the last month. Don’t ask what came over me, but the break did some eye-opening things for me. For now, I’ll just brush the surface of the many new goals I have set for myself, but hope to continue along this road and continue to share the details with you along the way. (more…)

Okay, so I know I’ve been away for awhile, but I’m back! Back in Scotland, back on blogging, and back to school! Yes, yes, I have been away from the wonderful world of blogging, but I have been one busy almost 22 year old, let me tell you!
My very last final at the University of Edinburgh wasn’t until December 19—far later than I’ve ever been at school. Usually, I go home to see my folks around December 8th, but not this year. I took my final in Gaelic, jumped on a plane after a hectic swing dancing weekend, and didn’t get home to Texas until the 22nd—THREE DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS. In addition to the craziness that Christmas brings to everyone, I had to be fitted for my maid of honor dress for a wedding on January 3rd. In order to get it all done in time, I actually tried on my dress in the bathroom of Abuelo’s in Dallas on my way home from the airport. But there’s more! I got into Texas on that Monday, and Saturday I was throwing my best friend (the same one I was the maid of honor for) a bachelorette party. It was far more difficult getting used to Texas again to begin with, but with the combination of Christmas and maid of honor duties, it was darn near impossible. I think I didn’t let myself start to relax until after January 3, once Daniel and Michelle were safely away on their honeymoon.

The drive to Virginia only took three hours. Compared to the twelve hour trips we had been taking, this drive was a walk in the park. In order to get my aunt to take a few days off of work, my uncle had tricked her into thinking that they were going to Washington. Our plan was to get to their house after lunch in order to surprise my aunt when she got home from work. What we didn’t plan on was getting lost along the way. (more…)

According to Wikipedia.org…
Murphy’s law is an adage in Western culture that broadly states, “if anything can go wrong, it will.” It is also cited as: “If there’s more than one possible outcome of a job or task, and one of those outcomes will result in disaster or an undesirable consequence, then somebody will do it that way”; “Anything that can go wrong, will,” the similar “Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong,” or, “Whatever can go wrong will go wrong, and at the worst possible time, in the worst possible way.”
In the spirit of this wonderful guarantee, I present to you another great example of this truth in action.
One of my dear friends got engaged, married, and moved within the short amount of time I was in Europe this summer. Her husband is in the military and will be attending Harvard Law next year, so they were not afforded the luxury of time and planning in the matter. Training at Quantico, she lives in the D.C. area. Given the opportunity to attend the inauguration of our forty forth president, it was only logical that Amber and I fly up early to indulge ourselves in some much needed girl time with our newlywed friend Katy. This is a recipe for disaster… and this disaster tastes delicious. (more…)
