Smooth Sailing

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

I must say, times have been great as of late.  Even with the rigorous school schedule that most of us are currently on as we wrap up the semester, I have really enjoyed myself since returning from spring break.  Although classes continue to become more challenging, the fact that I know what to expect and the preparation that is needed to succeed makes for a much smoother situation.  It all goes back to the what many use as their motto which is work first, play later.  That has been the process I have followed throughout this semester to keep my priorities in line.  Also, as much as I love the cold weather, it is great to have all this great spring weather that we have had lately.  I am thrilled that the pro baseball season is less than a week away and that I now will always have something to watch when I turn on the TV.  If I could change one thing about sports, I would love to eliminate all the corruption and the media that blows things out of proportion.  These athletes are making millions of dollars and so many would give anything to be in their shoes, and yet they still choose to make bad decisions.  I would love to see the day come back where baseball became America’s past time once again.  What could be better than spending a great night out with friends and family while taking in a baseball game and watching top-level athletes do what they do best.  Just my two cents on the matter. From Aggie to Wegie

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

As you all know, I am the loudest, proudest member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2009: A-Whoop! But wait, it’s 2009 this year…doesn’t that mean I’m supposed to graduate and…sniffle…leave the safety of being an undergraduate Aggie?? As in, make a decision about my future?

Over the past few months, as I’m sure most other seniors have been, I’ve been stressing out about what I’d be doing after graduation. Because I’m studying abroad during the spring semester of my senior year, the credits won’t be applied to my A&M degree in time for a May graduation, meaning I’ll be done in August. To make the general unease about graduating more intense, I also had to worry about whether or not I was staying in the United Kingdom or flying home in August to graduate and staying in Texas, as well as coordinate all my graduation from across the Atlantic. Big Weekend.

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Wow. Can there be more hours added onto this weekend please ?
This weekend was like any typical weekend of mine, a friend visiting and 6 hours of meetings on Sunday.
The only difference was the addition of Big Event and my sorority’s Formal.

On Life, Learning and Archery

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Friday afternoon around 5:30, I got a facebook message from Camp Grady Spruce begging for weekend help. With only a few things on my agenda and wanting desperately to see the lake, I packed up and got there by midnight. By 7, I was up attempting to catch horses spooked by the whipping wind and felt grateful not to be keeping them in line all day…Yikes!

An “Eventful” Weekend

Monday, March 30th, 2009

This was a very busy weekend. With Big Event on Saturday and Holi on Sunday, I barely even had time to sleep. (more…)

How Bazaar

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

I felt somewhat uneasy as I was flipping through the pages of this month’s Bazaar this morning. The reality of the magazine and the content of the articles seemed conflicted. I mean, let’s face it- Bazaar is for women what Playboy is for men; we justify our subscriptions by the articles, but in actuality all we do is look at the pictures. Regardless, the articles boasted of spending conservatively and buying “classic, timeless pieces” during these economically “tough” times. I’m sorry, but if you can afford to spend $600 on a bangle and $5,000 on pajamas, you are far from experiencing economic tough times… Obviously these things are all relative, but there has to be a line where too much is too much. ACDFA… or Approaching Choreography and Dance From different Angles

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

I love this. I thrive in these situations.

Dance floors not sticking, iPods not playing, class monitors not showing up, rainfall seeping in through the cracks of the fourth floor of the Read Building, turning the dance floor borrowed from Ballet Austin into a dangerous slip-and-slide… Welcome to ACDF- the American College Dance Festival.

The American College Dance Festival Association is split up into geographic regions of collegiate dance programs. The South Central Regional festival was hosted this year by Texas A&M University, and boy, was it a ton of work. Although my specific assignment was to manage the classes being taught in the MSC, Read Building and G. Rollie White on campus, I tried to sneak off to Rudder High School, where the adjudicated performances were occurring in the auditorium, as often as possible. (more…)

Back to Business

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Spring break came and went even faster than I expected.  Although I did not do a whole lot, it was still great to have a week to relax and get away from being on such a tough schedule.  I got to hang out with lots of old friends at the beginning of spring break.  We had a great time catching up and enjoying our time away from our respected universities.  I also got to spend some time with my aunt who had flown in from North Carolina.  I do not get to see her very often, and it was great to catch up with her.  I think I did nearly all the things I had planned to do except for going frog gigging.  The weather would be warm during the day, but then at night it would turn cold, and frogs are not real good about coming out during cold temperatures. From Eiffel Tower to Rudder Tower

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

I have just returned from France and sadly returned to reality. It seems only moments ago that I was biking through the streets of Paris and avoiding oncoming traffic. Though I only got to spend a week abroad, I feel I have learned and experienced so much. (more…)

Post Spring Break

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Once again, I’m running on a mere 4 hours of sleep. I swear it has become a trend … a trend that I would love to end. I flew off to Houston Sunday morning. Took a little cat nap at home and did a little bit of repacking. Drove to College Station for some meetings. And now I’m back into gear of school life.
