I have neglected writing this summer to say the least. No matter what I do, it just seems like I do not have enough time in the day to get things done with these fast paced summer classes. Summer Two has come and gone extremely fast. With just a week and a half to go, I am really looking forward to getting a few weeks off before getting things started back up again at the end of August. One of the classes that I am currently taking is my favorite class that I have taken at A&M. Finance 371 with Ed Elmore. Elmore practices law here in College Station, and he really knows how to relate the material to students. I have been successful in this class, mostly because I am interested in the things that we are covering. Things like contracts, leases, land valuation, and just land deals in general. I could really see myself pursuing this type of a career. (more…)

This week is my last week as an intern at Yves Saint Laurent.
It is filled with tons of mixed emotions. One part of me is so ready to go back to Texas for another year at school! The other part of me has gotten completely accustomed to my daily schedule here.

Good bye.
I feel like I have been saying that word a lot lately, but sometimes it can be such a lie. Sometimes they are not good byes, they are horrible byes, nostalgic byes, tough byes, or resistant byes. And I’ve said them all. In fact, I have gotten so sick of saying it, that it has taken a toll on me, emotionally, physically.
My skin, which has for the most part been clear throughout adolescence, has started breaking out, even with the new, expensive and more ‘healthy’ make up I have been wearing. A pestering, painful sty that appeared mysteriously on my lower eyelid, that eventually healed, reappeared on my upper eyelid, less noticeable, yet tenderer. My stomach has been growling at me, and I am having trouble sleeping. Worst of all, I have been really on edge, emotional, if you will, way more than normal, and super sensitive. I cry at the mention of a word, or the scent of a familiar smell. And I overreact. I’m sure Jon is glad to see me go, especially in this fragile state. I know I have been taking a toll on his patience. And it’s all because I have been lying through my teeth, repeated over and over, ‘good bye’. (more…)

Just when you think you have Texas weather figured out, Mother Nature throws you a curveball. Lately I’ve been getting used to the extreme drought that we’ve been having in College Station. I’ve grown accustom to wiping the sweat off my brow after a two minute walk from my car to class. So when the weatherman said there was rain in the forecast, I dusted off my umbrella and thought that I was prepared; nobody ever told me that there was going to be a tornado! (more…)

It’s funny how it took me 2 months and a few weeks (and a visit from a friend) to develop a new found appreciation for all things Texan. Although, I don’t drive well … or even remotely well … I miss being able to get in my car and drive aimlessly. I miss a really really really good bowl of guacamole. I miss laying out at the pool. The list goes on and on. I can’t wait to go home and appreciate everything that I have taken for granted. Guacamole! Do you know how hard it is to find some good guacamole here!!

To me summer and school are two things that cannot coexist, so when your schedule permits, enjoy all of the summer that you can. Last week my sister and I both had tests to take. As you would expect, it was really quiet in the house and stress levels were through the roof, but then there was a strange occurrence; we were both free for the weekend. We decided to take advantage of this free time and headed to the island. (more…)

It’s finally come.
My exit from college and Aggieland has not been the traditional, triumphant finish; instead it has been a steady fade. However, I should not be surprised by this; my entrance into Aggieland took what seemed like a lifetime of preparation, and while I’m ready to move on, it will be no dramatic finish, because it seems to have no real end.

The ending of an era, the turning of a page.
Doesn’t it seem like there is some sort of marker to signify the end? I think for me, this past week as an assistant for the Texas A&M Dance Department Summer Intensive, clarified it. In early October 2008, Yes, No, Maybe, a 10 minute dance work choreographed by Kathy Dunn Hamrick out of Austin, was set on the Texas A&M Dance Faculty, three other students, and myself. Originally choreographed for six, we performed it numerous times, on different stages, with various entrances and exits with a cast of seven. Once the work was in our bodies, our rehearsal times were more reminiscent of episodes of The View rather than practices. We became so comfortable with the work that while we never stopped taking it seriously, we learned how to have as much fun with it as possible. (more…)

Before I started as an intern at Yves Saint Laurent, I feared the hectic and stressful experiences I had seen on The Devil Wears Prada. Yet, I also feared the pointless, gossip-filled and non-productive life style seen on The Hills. Both definitely differ from what I do on the day to day basis. It’s much less interesting, but that makes sense … I’m no reality television star.

Global warming is really hitting Texas hard this year. Early one morning there were dark rain clouds in the sky. As I started to drive to class, a few drops fell. By the time I parked my car and walked out of the garage, all of the clouds were gone and the sun had already evaporated the rain. Last week there was an extreme heat advisory on Thursday and Friday. Can you guess which days I was signed up to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity? (more…)
