I hate to be a bad Aggie, but I did miss this weekend’s game to go to Austin.
However, it was a special circumstance … AUSTIN CITY LIMITS ! (A 3 day fest of fabulous music.) Which, I figured I well deserved, after my long and rough week of tests and all nighters.
I arrived to Zilker Park on Friday in the mid afternoon for one of my favorite bands, Vampire Weekend.
I basically have an official crush on the entire band. I love they can rock out in penny loafers and sweater sets. I also was able to catch some other bands that I’ve been listening too since freshmen year of high school: Mates of State, Jenny Lewis and N.E.R.D..
The best part about ACL is that you are able to discover new music. I was lucky enough to get in the front for Gogol Bordello. It happens to be a Gypsy Punk Rock band, which seems like the most unlikely combination. However, I was totally entranced. They used violins and traditional instruments, but paired it with electric guitars and catchy beats.
On Saturday, I returned for MGMT and Conor Oberst. On Sunday, I got to catch a glimpse of Stars, Okkervil River and Band of Horses.
The second best part about ACL is that people came in from all over (UT, obviously, but also UH, Baylor, Texas State, Arkansas, Texas Tech, etc.). My friends from A&M were able to meet my friends from high school, and visa versa. Miraculously, some of them already knew each other. Small world.
All in all, this weekend was a great experience filled with music, friends and a lot of sun exposure.
But, now I am back in College Station again and back for another round of tests, meetings and projects galore ! Can’t wait !
