Mission Statement

Consistent with the mission of the Mays Business School, the mission of the Department of Accounting is to achieve excellence in accounting education by providing the highest quality instruction and curricula in our academic programs, relevant intellectual contributions, and professional service.

Academic Program
In our BBA and MS programs, we provide a learning environment that prepares students to become ethical leaders in a profession which is characterized by continuous change. Our programs should develop a diverse set of skills in students including technical competence, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication abilities, technology expertise and global awareness. The objective of our Ph.D. Program is to develop accounting scholars who can make contributions in scholarship and teaching at leading universities. To accomplish the objectives of our programs, the Department maintains an environment which fosters outstanding teaching, an active learning environment, continuous improvement and innovation in the delivery of instruction, and service to students.

Intellectual Guidelines
We provide an environment which fosters relevant intellectual contributions by our faculty to the body of knowledge of accounting and related fields. These contributions may include basic scholarship, applied scholarship and instructional development. It is our goal to integrate this research into the students learning processes in our academic programs.

Service
We provide an environment which fosters educational and professional service by our faculty which benefits our former students, the university community, the accounting profession, and the public.
