What are the prerequisites for the MS MIS degree?
There are two prerequisites: A course in statistics and a course in a widely used programming language such as Java or Visual Basic.NET. These classes may be taken after you are accepted into the program if you have not already had them.
When is the application deadline?
- US Citizens/Permanent Residents: May 31
- International Applicants: February 15
Can I list transfer credits on my degree program?
Yes. Up to six hours of graduate transfer credit can be listed on the degree program. These courses must not have been listed on the previous degree program. This will be determined in conjunction with an advisor once you are admitted.
Can I be considered for admission if I am not a business graduate?
Yes. In fact, many of our students do not have undergraduate business degrees.
Can I transfer coursework from another institution?
Yes. A maximum of 12 hours can be transferred from other institutions, however, only six hours may be applied to your degree plan with approval of the MS MIS advisor.
Do I need to take the GRE or the GMAT?
Either test is acceptable. If you have a choice, the GMAT is preferred.
What are the minimum GPA and GRE/GMAT scores?
There are no minimum scores required; the admission committee considers an application in its entirety in making the admissions decision.
Are there any scholarships or graduate assistant positions available?
Yes. We have a limited number of scholarships and graduate assistant positions that we award to outstanding applicants. Your application for admission is also your scholarship and GA application.
I am a non-degree classified student (G6 classification). What courses can I take?
Mays does not accept non-degree seeking students.
Where does the MS/MIS program fit into Mays Business School?
The MS/MIS program is a masters program in the Department of Information & Operations Management (INFO) which is one of five departments within Mays Business School at Texas A&M.
Is a paper application package available?
The department does not provide a paper application.

Is work experience required to enter the program?
Although work experience is not required for admission, it is desirable to have business or industry experience since it enhances the learning experience. Work experience is considered in the admission decisions.
