How do I get course credit for my internship?

Your Marketing internship may count as a Marketing Elective (MKTG 484).  To determine if you can earn course credit with your internship, please be aware of the following criteria:

  • Internships must be no less than 8 weeks and 300 hours in duration.
  • No more than 25% of job duties will be clerical or otherwise not related to the development of professional work skills. Internships may be in areas of marketing, advertising, professional sales, merchandising, store management, professional PR work, among others.

Before accepting an internship, all students are encouraged to contact Kelli Hollinger, the instructor for MKTG 484, to see if the internship is approved for credit.  Her office is in Wehner 201. Not all internships are approved, such as those with sport teams or Disney.  There are other opportunities on campus for students to earn credit for internships like those.  Once your internship is approved, you will need to obtain a formal letter of offer from your employer.

The Internship Credit Course (MKTG 484) is writing intensive and requires five short papers throughout the summer term.  (Note: final assignment requirements subject to change).  Employer evaluations are also part of the internship grade. A mandatory syllabus review session will be held on April 23, 24 and 25.  Students must attend one of these sessions or cannot enroll in the course.
