Biography

George Fowler's research interests are in the area of Information Systems curriculum, small business systems, end user computing, system integration and programming complexity. Recently he has made a presentation on "Teaching with the Internet." His research has appeared in Decision Sciences, Association for Educational Data System Journal, The Journal of Data Education, Interface, ACM and Computers and Education. His research has been cited in the Communications of the ACM and several other journals.

Professor Fowler has a strong interest in teaching and service. He is also involved with industry as the department's corporate liaison. He is very active with the Association of Information Technology Professionals, AITP Education Foundation and the Information Systems Education Conferences as well as other professional organizations.
George Fowler served on the executive committee for the National Information Systems Education Conference (ISECON) meetings sponsored by the AITP Education Foundation for 10 years. He also served as the Conference Chairman in 1985 and 1993. In 1998 he served as the Conference Chairman for the AITP National Collegiate Student Conference.

Dr. Fowler has been the Texas A&M Student AITP Chapter advisor for over 20 years. During that time the chapter has been recognized as one of the leading chapters as evidenced by the number of SCOPA awards it has received. He and the student chapter were on the planning committee for the 1997 Region 3 Student Conference.

Dr. Fowler is the author of two textbooks. His first text is titled "COBOL: Structured Programming techniques for Solving Problems" - published by Boyd & Fraser Publishing Company. It is in its second edition. The second text is co-authored and titled "Ethical Issues in Information Systems: A Book of Readings" and was released by Boyd & Fraser in the fall of 1991.

Currently, Dr. Fowler serves the department as coordinator of the Internship and Scholarship programs. These efforts are part of his role as Director for the Center for the Management of Information Systems.
