Biography

Dr. Jeffrey S. Conant is Department Head and Professor of Marketing, Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence, and Eppright University Professor in Undergraduate Teaching Excellence in the Mays Business School.

Dr. Conant's research interests include marketing strategy and the scholarship of teaching and learning. His recent work in marketing strategy and planning focuses on marketing strategy development styles, implementation capability, implementation speed, and firm performance. His strategic marketing research has appeared in the Strategic Management Journal, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, and Marketing Letters. He is a former recipient of the Academy of Marketing Science's Doctoral Dissertation Award.

Dr. Conant has also been identified as one of the most frequent contributors to the literature on the scholarship of teaching and learning in marketing. He has received the Journal of Marketing Education's Outstanding Article of the Year Award three times (1989, 1999, 2003), as well as the Best Article Award from the Marketing Education Review (2003). His programmatic stream of research on the distinguishing characteristics of master teachers is widely acclaimed. Other scholarship of teaching and learning topics he has written about include the introduction stage of the faculty career life cycle, case teaching, and techniques for enhancing large class instruction.

Dr. Conant has been recognized for his teaching at the university, state, and national levels. He is the recipient of two distinguished achievement awards in teaching from the Association of Former Students at Texas A&M University, the Piper Professor Award (given annually to select educators in the state of Texas by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation of San Antonio), the Great Teachers in Marketing Award from the Academy of Marketing Science, and the Society for Marketing Advances' Sherwin-Williams Distinguished Professor Award. In 2004 he was designated a Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence by the president of Texas A&M. This award and professorship is believed to be the highest-valued award of its kind in the nation. In 2005 Texas A&M University named Dr. Conant to the Eppright University Professorship in Undergraduate Teaching Excellence.

Dr. Conant received his B.A. degree from New York University, M.B.A. from the University of Arizona, and Ph.D. from Arizona State University.
