Biography
Dr. Hellriegel has been a member of the faculty at Texas A&M since 1975 and has served on the faculties of the Pennsylvania State University and the University of Colorado.His current professional interests include entrepreneurship, organizational behavior, and the strategic management process.
Professor Hellriegel served as Vice President and Program Chair of the Academy of Management (1986), President Elect (1987), President (1988), and Past President (1989). In September 1999, he was elected to a three-year term as Dean of the Fellows Group of the Academy of Management. He served a term as editor of the Academy of Management Review and served on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Management (1979-1981); (1982-1989). Dr. Hellriegel has occupied many other leadership roles; including President, Eastern Academy of Management; Division Chair, Organization and Management Theory Division; President, Brazos County United Way; Co-Consulting Editor, West Series in Management; Department Head (1976-1980 and 1989-1994), Department of Management (TAMU); Executive Associate Dean (1995-2000) and Interim Dean, Mays College of Business (TAMU); and Interim Executive Vice Chancellor (TAMUS).
He recently co-authored the tenth editions of two books: Management: A Competency-Based Approach (2005) and Organizational Behavior (2004). His research has been published in a number of journals; such as Administrative Science Quarterly; Academy of Management Journal; Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Change; Industrial and Labor Relations Review; Industrial Relations; Organization Science; Journal of Management Studies; Journal of Occupational Behavior; Public Administration Review; Business Horizons; and Journal of Business Research.
Dr. Hellriegel currently serves on the editorial review boards of the Academy of Management Executive and Organizational Dynamics.
He has consulted with a variety of groups and organizations, including--among others--3DI, Sun Ship Building, Penn Mutual Life Insurance, Texas A&M University System, Ministry of Industry and Commerce (Nation of Kuwait), Ministry of Agriculture (Nation of Dominican Republic), American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business, and Texas Innovation Group.
