Biography

Dr. David M. Szymanski is the JCPenney Chair of Retailing Studies and Former Director of the Center for Retailing Studies at Texas A&M; University. Dr. Szymanski's research focuses on retailing strategy, marketing strategy, product innovation, customer satisfaction and personal selling. He has been published widely in the leading journals in marketing, including the Journal of Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, and Journal of Retailing. His research productivity places him among the top published researchers in the field of marketing. He has received research awards from the American Marketing Association and the Academy of Marketing Science and received the Mu Kappa Tau award for the outstanding article published in the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management. Dr. Szymanski has twice been named the outstanding researcher at Mays Business School and has received outstanding teaching awards from Mays Business School and Texas A&M; University. Dr. Szymanski's biography has appeared in Men of Achievement, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in Emerging Leaders in America. Dr. Szymanski has consulted widely for companies in the retailing industry and has worked closely with more than 100 retailing and retailing-related companies. He has been a frequent keynote speaker at practitioner conferences and serves on the board of directors of Zale Corporation and OfficeMax Corporation. Dr. Szymanski attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville as an undergraduate where he played basketball and tennis for each of his four years. He received his B.A. degree in economics from UNC-Asheville, M.A. degree in economics from Vanderbilt University, M.B.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Ph.D. degree in business with a concentration in marketing and minor in statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is married to the former Maria Kondilis and has three children in college, Ashley, Matthew and Jessica.
