Biography

R. Duane Ireland is a Distinguished Professor and holds the Foreman R. and Ruby S. Bennett Chair in Business at Texas A&M University. He received his Ph.D. from Texas Tech University.

He has authored or co-authored many books and book chapters and published numerous articles in journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Executive, Strategic Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Decision Sciences, Journal of Management, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice and Journal of Management Studies, among others.

His recent publications include five books: Strategic Management: Competitiveness and Globalization, 9th Edition (2011) (South-Western), Entrepreneurship: Successfully Launching New Ventures, 3rd Edition (2010), (Prentice-Hall), Understanding Business Strategy, 2nd Edition (2009) (South-Western), Competing for Advantage, 2nd Edition (2008) (South-Western), and What's Stopping You? (2008) (FT Press).

He is currently serving as the Editor for Academy of Management Journal. Previously, he served as an Associate Editor for Academy of Management Journal , Academy of Management Executive and as a Consulting Editor for Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. In addition, he has served on the editorial review boards for various journals including Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Executive, Journal of Management and Journal of Business Venturing, among others. He has been a Co-editor for special issues of Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Executive, Journal of Business Venturing, and Journal of Engineering and Technology Management.

He completed a term as a member of the Board of Governors for the Academy of Management (2002-2005). He also has served as a member of the Executive Committee and as Secretary of the Business Policy and Strategy Division of the Academy of Management. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Management. He served as the Program Chair of the Corporate Strategy and Governance Interest Group in the Strategic Management Society. He has also been an invited participant for doctoral and new faculty consortia for the Business Policy and Strategy and Entrepreneurship Divisions of the Academy of Management.

He received awards for the best article published in Academy of Management Journal (2000) and Academy of Management Executive (1999). A paper published in Academy of Management Executive in 2001 received an award from the U.S. Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship (USASBE) as the best article published in corporate entrepreneurship during 2001-2002. He has also received other awards and honors such as the Scholar in Corporate Entrepreneurship Award from the U.S. Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship (2004), the Outstanding Reviewer Award from the Business Policy and Strategy Division (2003), and Most Insightful Reviewer Award from Journal of Management (2002).
