Biography

Dr. Abbie Shipp completed her Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and holds a B.S. in Business and an M.B.A. from Oklahoma State University. During her doctoral work, she received several awards including: Outstanding Ph.D. Student from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at UNC and the Graduate Student Scholarship from the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychologists (SIOP).

Dr. Shipp's current research focuses on the psychological experience of time at work including: how the trajectory of work experiences over time (e.g., person-environment fit, satisfaction, burnout) affects attitudes and behaviors, how time is spent on work tasks, and how individuals think about the past/present/future. Dr. Shipp has articles published or in press at Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Management, Academy of Management Best Papers Proceedings, and Perspectives on Organizational Fit: SIOP Organizational Frontiers Series. She is on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Journal and Journal of Management, a Principal Reviewer for Journal of Applied Psychology, and an ad-hoc reviewer for Personnel Psychology and Organization Science. Dr. Shipp teaches organizational behavior courses in the Mays Business School Honors and Master's programs, which was recognized in 2009 with the Lockheed Martin Excellence in Teaching Award.

In addition to previous work experience at The Boeing Company and TV Guide, she has consulted with firms such as Ernst & Young, Marriott International, Halliburton, Texas Transportation Institute, and AT&T on issues of employee satisfaction and retention, person-environment fit, employee relations, organizational change, and survey design.
