Biography
Shontarius came to Mays Business School in 2007 as a Lecturer in the Transitions Program. He teaches all sections of BUSN 101, Freshman Business Seminar, which includes over 600 freshmen each Fall semester. He also teaches BUSN 205, Integrated Worklife Competencies, one of the required common body of knowledge (CBK) courses for all sophomore business students.
Shontarius has worked with a wide variety of student populations over the years. At the University of Arkansas (1993-2000) while in undergraduate and graduate school, he held various positions such as Resident Assistant, Graduate Hall Director, and Summer Conferences Coordinator. At the University of Michigan (2000-2003), he worked in the Division of Student Affairs as a full-time Residence Hall Director. In 2003, Aikens came to Texas A&M University as a Student Development Specialist in the Department of Student Activities.
Aikens is certified by the Franklin Covey Corporation to facilitate the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People seminar curriculum. He enjoys mentoring and speaking to teenagers and young adults on topics such as personal leadership, priorities management, goal setting, and responsible decision making. He also enjoys mentoring and teaching college students on how to make a successful transition from high school into college and from college into their future careers.
An interesting fact about Shontarius is that he is a classically trained trumpet player. In his spare time, he teaches trumpet lessons to elementary, junior high, and high school students in the Bryan/College Station, TX area.
