Biography

Dr. Gilbert joined the Mays faculty in the Fall of 2007, after working three years as an Assistant Professor at Georgia State University. She received her Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship from Indiana University and is a 2010 recipient of the Kauffman Junior Faculty Fellowship -a fellowship given to emerging scholars in the field of entrepreneurship.

Her overarching research interest can be described as seeking to understand the conditions under which new ventures thrive. The research spans the geographic cluster, alliances, innovation, international and performance streams of literature.

Her current research projects seek understanding of the emergence of disruptive technologies in energy sectors, with a specific focus on hydrogen and fuel cell based technologies.

Dr. Gilbert's dissertation entitled, "The Implications of Geographic Cluster Locations for New Venture Performance" was awarded a Kauffman Dissertation Fellowship in 2004, and was also selected as a finalist for the Entrepreneurship Division's 2005 Heizer Award for outstanding dissertations in entrepreneurship.

Dr. Gilbert's research is currently published or forthcoming in the Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Small Business Economics, and Strategic Management Journal.

She serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Business Venturing, and as a reviewer for the Academy of Management Journal, Small Business Economics, and Strategic Management Journal. She is also completing a two-year gubernatorial appointment as an advisory committee member to the Texas Emerging Technology Fund.

Dr. Gilbert teaches courses on creativity and innovation at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
