Biography
Dr. Bravenec has taught for a total of 30 years, including 25.5 at A&M. He practiced taxation law for 4.5 years, including 2 years with the U.S. Department of Justice, Tax Division.Courses Taught at A&M: principally corporations (beginning and advanced), property transactions, tax accounting, partnerships, estate planning, introduction to taxation.
Research and Publications: over 100 articles in the area of Federal taxation, including an article which was one of the sources for the Treasury proposal in its report on "Intergration of the Individual and Corporate Tax Systems: Taxing Business Income Once" (Jan. 1992).
Also, author of "Federal Taxation of S Corporations and Shareholders" (1995), a 1000-page treatise.
1988 Study of the value-added tax at Oxford University and London School of Economics in the United Kingdom. One product of this development leave was my authorship of the policy study "Design Issues in a Credit Method Value-Added Tax for the United States," published by the American Institute of CPAs Tax Division in 1990.
1992 Fulbright Grant: taught comparative tax systems at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia (then Czech and Slovak Federal Republic) in 1992 under a Fulbright grant from the United States government. Contact maintained with the FMUK and Dr. Bravenec holds the present title of Distinguished Visiting Professor of Taxation.
1995 Faculty Seminar Abroad: participated in TAMU's 1995 seminar abroad in Mexico.
Professional Associations and Service: American Accounting Association and its subgroup, American Taxation Association (several committees, including one former chairmanship). American Bar Association, Section of Taxation (former member of governing Council and chairman of several committees). American Institute of CPAs, Tax Division (member of several committees). American Law Institute (member of Tax Advisory Group).
