Biography

Since coming to Texas A&M University in 1978, Dr. Wolken has served the university in a variety of teaching and administrative positions. He has been in the Department of Finance since the fall of 1984 and was the James W. Aston/Republic Bank Professor of Finance from 1991 through 1993.He is currently a Senior Professor and the Director of the Scholastic Assistance in Global Education Project for the Center for International Business Studies. His teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in international finance, corporate finance, and the department’s survey of finance course for business minors. He received the Distinguished Teaching Award in the College of Business Administration for the 1990-91 academic year.

He has published a wide variety of articles and is the author or co-author of numerous textbooks. His article entitled The Restructuring of China’s Banking System Under the Current Economic Reforms appeared in the Columbia Journal of World Business. The three editions of his high school economic text, Invitation to Economics, were one of the most widely used texts throughout the United States. He is also responsible for the economic content of twenty-three other social studies texts used nationwide in grades 1 through 12. Because of his expertise in using technology in the classroom, he was instrumental in developing the computerized slides which accompany Fundamentals of Financial Management by Eugene F. Brigham and Louis Gapenski.
