MS-MIS Degree

In today's high-tech and globally-competitive world, information systems management plays an important role in business success.  However, a critical shortage of professionally trained information systems managers exists in the workforce.  At the same time, the demand for information systems managers is skyrocketing with projected 10-year growth rates of 18 to 26 percent, the fastest of any business discipline.  In an article titled "America's Best Jobs in the Hottest Markets," Business 2.0 magazine identifies information management jobs such as software developer, information technology manager, and business process analyst as the highest demand and best paying jobs in America's most exciting cities including Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Orlando.  The job opportunities are anticipated to continue to grow in the future as well.

The Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MS-MIS) degree program prepares students to enter this exciting and dynamic career field.  The MS-MIS degree program provides students with a solid technical information systems foundation and appropriate business skills that enable graduates to immediately contribute to solving business problems.  Texas A&M University graduates are highly valued and respected in the workforce and are sought by first class employers.

The MS-MIS program is equally beneficial for students with an information systems background as well as those wishing to leverage and enhance their undergraduate degree from another field.  The MS-MIS degree is an ideal complement for any undergraduate student with a degree in business, engineering, science, math, or other analytically-oriented majors.  The MS-MIS degree can jump start your career and provide fast-track opportunities not available to those with only an undergraduate degree.

The MS-MIS degree is an 18-month, 36 credit hour, non-thesis program. We have one admissions cycle per year and welcome a new class each fall semester. The typical course load taken by our students is as follows:

By following the above schedule, a student would begin his/her studies in August and would receive an MS-MIS degree in December of the following year. Students who do not participate in an internship during the summer may take classes during that time period (there are limited course offerings in the summer) or may take four courses instead of three in the second fall semester to complete his/her degree on time.
