Reliant Energy Securities & Commodities Trading Center
Hands-on experience is, without a doubt, one of the best ways to prepare students for their future careers. The Reliant Energy Securities & Commodities Trading Center gives Mays students this valuable asset.
The center provides Mays business students with a unique learning opportunity – experiencing the financial world first hand in an interactive environment.
About the center
The Reliant Energy Securities & Commodities Trading Center was established in 2000 thanks to the generous support of Reliant Energy.
As part of the Department of Finance, the center gives Mays business students access to analytical tools and volumes of real-time and historical financial data. Students also make use of the Reliant Energy Trading Center to manage the Tanner Fund, a student-run portfolio established by Jamey S. and Richard C. Tanner ’53.
Other business classes make use of the center, including a senior-level energy trading class, a course in energy risk management, and a sophomore-level course that exposes students to trading in securities and commodities markets.
Facilities
The Reliant Energy Trading Center is located on the first floor of Cox Hall.
The facility seats up to 40 students at computer workstations. It is outfitted with two Bloomberg terminals, four independent LED projectors, a SMART Technology system and two drop-down screens. The center also features the Kiodex Risk Workbench, a state-of-the-art trading and risk management platform.
