Special Interest Opportunities

More than 20 organizations of special interest to business students. Some are local chapters of national professional groups, most are related to a specific career interest.

Business Student Council (BSC): The governing student body of Mays Business School. Also includes representatives of business student organizations. Membership is through an application and interview process every fall semester. The BSC office, located at 151 Wehner, 979-458-1781, is a good source of information and contacts about participation in any of these groups.

Business Career Fair: Provides opportunity for company representatives and students to visit informally and identifies candidates for filling immediate and future professional openings. The Career Fair also provides information about career opportunities to aid the career decision-making process. For more information contact the BSC in 151 Wehner, 979- 845-1320.

Mays Business Fellows: A premier professional development program that provides special seminars, field experiences and activities. Students are admitted on a competitive basis through an application and interview process. For information, 979-845-4873.

Mays Business Honors: Selection through an application process is required to pursue a B.B.A. in Business Honors. The major recognizes the importance and need for interdepartmental business course work to solve complex problems. For information, 979-845-4873.

Co-op/Internships: An excellent way for students to gain work experience, make professional contacts in industry and earn a nice salary. For co-op information, contact the Co-op Office, 209 Koldus, 979-845-7725. For internship information, contact the Career Services Coordinator, 238 Wehner, 979-862-3850. Department advisors can also provide information on co-ops and internships.

Career Center: The Career Center arranges employment interview schedules with hundreds of companies every year and has a comprehensive career education and resource library. Begin researching internships or co-ops during the sophomore or junior year. Students seeking full-time employment should register on-line with the Career Center two semesters prior to graduation. Student Learning Center (SLC): The SLC is committed to supporting and strengthening the academic experience of students by providing a variety of programs and services that promote retention and success. Supplemental Instruction (SI) is offered for selected core curriculum course sections. The Independent Study Lab assists students with reading, writing, mathematics and study skills. Professional Program: Admission to the program is by application. For information, call 979-845-8587. Graduates earn a BBA in Accounting and a MS degree based on the track.

Office of Professional School Advising (OPSA): Offers a variety of services to assist Aggies who aspire to enter any professional school, including allied health, dentistry, law and medicine. Interested students should meet with an OPSA advisor early in their academic career to maximize the Aggie Advantage. OPSA is located in 205 Academic Building, 979- 845-8938.

Overseas Study Opportunities

To succeed in this interdependent world, it is critical that students gain an informed perspective about it. A wide range of overseas study opportunities are available. Interested students are encouraged to begin planning early in their academic career.

Reciprocal Exchange: Provides individual Mays business students the opportunity to study and live at an overseas university for a semester or academic year. Mays has exchange programs partnerships in Austria, China, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and Sweden. University-wide exchange programs include universities in England, Ecuador, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, and Switzerland.

Business students interested in participating in an exchange program MUST:

• Have a cumulative GPR of 3.0 or greater
• Have junior (U3) classification AND be admitted to an upper division major by the beginning of the exchange
• Have language skills necessary to follow classes taught in the language of the host country and institution
• Attend Texas A&M University for at least one full semester after the exchange

Study Abroad: Faculty-led programs. Mays sponsors several summer study abroad opportunities. A group of selected TAMU students led by a faculty member travel to a foreign location for study in business and culture/economic environment course work.

Business students interested in participating in a study abroad program MUST:

• Have a cumulative GPR of 2.5 or greater
• Have junior (U3) classification AND be admitted to an upper division major by the beginning of the program
• Meet other eligibility requirements
