Frequently Asked Questions

Is there pre-work before classes begin?

Yes! Career QuickStart consists of eight consecutive modules, each containing learning material and assignments with set deadlines. This online program is thoughtfully designed to familiarize incoming Mays graduate students with the resources, tools, and foundational knowledge essential for excelling in their personalized career journey. This program is an important step in preparing students to perform at a high level, and we encourage them to take full ownership of their success as they build the skills and mindset needed to navigate their career with confidence.

Can I start working with an advisor before class starts?

Yes! Through our pre-program Career Quickstart, incoming students will have the opportunity to meet with their career coach for a brief introductory intake meeting. If you have an immediate need – such as applying to Pre-MBA or Pre-Program events – we encourage you to reach out to your advisor directly. We’re here to help you get started on the right foot!

What can I do now to prepare for recruiting?
  • There are several steps you can take now to set yourself up for success:
    • Complete the Career QuickStart modules: These pre-program resources are designed to help you reflect on your goals, refine your resume, and prepare for early conversations with employers.
    • Begin career exploration: Take time to research industries, roles, and companies that align with your interests and values.
    • Start building relationships: Reach out to current students, alumni, and professionals in your areas of interest to learn about their career journeys. Networking early can provide valuable insights and open doors.
  • Your coach will support you throughout the process, but taking these steps now will give you a strong foundation for recruiting when the program begins.
What career fairs and conferences are available to Mays MBA and MS students?

Mays MBA and MS students have access to a variety of career fairs and conferences throughout the year. On-campus options include the Business Career Fair, as well as industry-specific networking events and company information sessions hosted by the CMC. In addition, students can participate in national career fairs and professional conferences.
