Internships
Accounting students get tremendous support with securing internships locally and out of town from career services and academic advisors. Students may opt to earn course credit while on their internship or not. Students cannot earn more than three credit hours for completion of an internship and must complete the required deliverables at the start, during, and end of the internship. The deliverables for the course will be communicated through the course syllabus and eCampus site.
Full-time Internships (PPA/MSA students)
The Professional Program curriculum is designed to accommodate internships during the senior year. MS Accounting students can opt for course credit in any semester prior to graduation.
- Audit and Taxation internships: Audit and taxation internships usually occur during the spring semester. Students in the audit track intern during the first half of the semester while those in the taxation track intern during the second half of the semester.
- Information Systems internships: Information Systems internships usually occur during the fall semester.
Full-time Internships (BBA students)
Full-time internships are defined as taking a departure from coursework in a semester to work full-time for at least 300 total hours. This sort of internship experience earns three credit hours of coursework in the course ACCT 484. BBA students will register for ACCT 484 in the semester that they will complete their internship. If the student is pursuing CPA-eligibility, they need to have taken 12 hours of upper-division Accounting coursework prior to the internship.
Prospective PPA students should not complete ACCT 484 prior to submitting an application to the program.
Part-time internships (BBA students)
Traditionally, an internship course is three credit hours for full-time (or equivalent) of work in that semester. Students also have the option of earning fewer credit hours in a semester if they have secured part-time employment which is still relevant and high-impact work experience for them in a semester. Students should review the Part-time Internship Policy and discuss it with their advisor if this is a good option for them.
Required forms for students and employers to complete and submit for the semesters of summer 2019 and fall 2019 will be added to this site ASAP.
