Biography

Aaron Becker is a Mays Teaching Fellow and Clinical Professor in the Information & Operations Management Department of Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. He also serves as the Assistant Department Head and the Graduate MIS Advisor. His primary research interests are in the group-level dynamics associated with the use of information technology. More specifically, his work examines such phenomena as emergent leadership and coordination in virtual teams, the processes by which virtual teams use specific capabilities of collaborative technologies to leverage their knowledge, and the consequences (in terms of team outcomes) of that appropriation.

Prior to entering academia, Dr. Becker worked as a software engineer/technical consultant in the telecom industry, and then as an Honors Intern with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Dr. Becker teaches several courses across both the undergraduate and graduate MIS curricula. He was named a Mays Teaching Fellow in 2017. He earned The Association of Former Students College Level Teaching Award in 2021. He was voted “Best Professor” by undergraduate MIS students in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. He was also voted “Best Professor” by MS-MIS students in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022. Additionally, he has earned the Nancy and William J. Gardiner ’76 Teaching Excellence Award (2016), the INFO Department Faculty Service Award (2015, 2021), and the Mays Summer Teaching Grant (2014, 2018).
