Blocker Chair in Business
Ricky W. Griffin holds the John R Blocker Chair in Business and is University Distinguished Professor of Management in Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. His research has appeared in Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, and several other leading journals. Professor Griffin has served as both Associate Editor and then Editor of the Journal of Management. He has also edited several scholarly books, most recently The Dark Side of Organizational Behavior. Professor Griffin is currently involved in research projects related to the topics of talent management and emergent leadership and serves as Founding Editor and Editor-in-Chief of Oxford Bibliographies Online, an internet-based resource currently used by several hundred global university libraries.
Professor Griffin is both a member and Fellow of the Academy of Management and has served as Program Chair and Division Chair of the organization’s Organizational Behavior division and as Program Chair of its Research Methods division. He has served two terms as Head of the Department of Management; he has also served as both Executive Associate Dean and Interim Dean at Mays. Professor Griffin is frequently called upon as an expert witness in legal cases involving workplace violence and aggression.
After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Houston in 1978, he joined the faculty at the University of Missouri—Columbia before moving to Texas A&M University in 1981. Professor Griffin teaches organizational behavior, human resource management, and general management. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate students, participated in numerous executive development and leadership programs, and has taught and/or presented his research in London, Paris, Warsaw, Geneva, Berlin, Johannesburg, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, and Sydney
