Integrated Business Experience

A focal theme of the MS Business program is learning business by doing business. In addition to a program-wide emphasis on experiential and team-based learning, the Integrated Business Experience (IBE) course brings to life the process of launching and running a small business including valuable lessons in teamwork and leadership.
Students work in assigned teams of 4 – 5 to form companies. Each company develops product ideas they would like to sell, conducts market research, develops a business plan for a new company, and pitches loan officers at Aggieland Credit Union to get start-up funding.
Once funded, teams manage every aspect of their venture—sourcing materials, building websites, developing an online presence, dealing with global supply chain issues, planning and executing in-person sales, paying vendors and creditors, and delivering products.
Teams form dynamic relationships with their chosen non-profit partners. Leveraging these relationships is beneficial to both entities, with students volunteering their time and non-profits offering sales opportunities at their events.
In the final semester, each company closes their business and donates earnings to their partner. Integrating their academic courses with insight into the full life cycle of a business provides a singular learning experience.
