CFA Institute has named Mays Business School at Texas A&M University a CFA Program Partner with its BBA, master’s in finance and MBA curriculums. Texas A&M is the only CFA Program Partner in the United States with three approved programs. Each of these degree programs cover at least 70 percent of the CFA Program candidate body of knowledge, including CFA Institute’s ethical and professional standards.

Finance professor Arvind Mahajan, who was instrumental in establishing the partnership and who will direct it as it develops, said it will benefit A&M students in both training and scholarship opportunities. “Through this partnership, more Aggies will obtain the coveted CFA certification,” said Mahajan, who also directs the Aggies on Wall Street Program.

Sorin Sorescu, professor and head of the Department of Finance at Mays, said he considers the partnership beneficial for the university and the business school. “The current economic environment creates a new set of challenges for our graduates who seek to enter the job marketplace,” he explained. “We are responding by reforming the way in which we deliver education to our students. We are placing increased emphasis on internships, and are revising our curriculum to offer new courses in fixed income, valuation, financial modeling, and active portfolio management.”

Sorescu explained the implications of the partnership: “The CFA partnership marks an important milestone in our educational reform: it elevates the prestige of our programs, and increases our students’ ability to compete with the best and brightest in the job market. We are extremely proud of this affiliation.”

Mays also enjoys status as a thought leader in the academic and professional investment management communities and is well-positioned to contribute to the lifelong learning pursuits of more than 100,000 CFA Institute members worldwide.

“Students in these programs are exposed to the candidate body of knowledge, concepts and principles that have been identified by investment experts worldwide as essential to global practice,” said Bob Johnson, CFA, senior managing director of CFA Institute. “By mastering these fundamentals of the CFA Program, students will be well on their way to earning the highly valued CFA charter.”

Students in the programs will gain access to CFA Institute textbooks, journals, webcasts, and other educational resources. Students will also benefit from professional development events held in conjunction with Mays Business School.

Recognition as a CFA Program Partner signals to potential students, employers, and the marketplace that the university curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students to sit for the three levels of CFA examinations.
