How Aggies in Consulting Is Shaping This Student’s Path to a Consulting Career

Business Honors student Colby Mechem balances a busy class load, a job, and athletics alongside his involvement with Mays’ Aggies in Consulting program

Mays Business School Business Honors student Colby Mechem ’26 doesn’t have a “typical” day so much as a full one. Between a full schedule of classes, his student worker role in the Business Honors program office, a spot on the practice team for Texas A&M’s women’s basketball, and involvement with Mays’ Aggies in Consulting (AiC), Colby is always on the go. The hard work and intentional balance is all preparing him for a consulting career after he graduates.

Aggies in Consulting is a high-impact, cohort-based program designed to prepare students for careers in consulting. Through a mix of coursework, mentorship, and extracurricular experiences, AiC gives students the skills and exposure they need to land consulting roles at every level.

The program is open to Texas A&M students from any college or major. Students apply their freshman year and then are expected to maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher to remain enrolled. Students who complete the full course sequence earn the Management Consulting Certificate, giving them a credential that stands out to recruiters.

Colby’s interest in consulting began as a sophomore after mentors helped him discover Aggies in Consulting. “It exposed me to the industry, sparked my interest, and helped me during the recruiting process for Bain & Company, where I’ll be interning this summer,” he says. “Now, as a TA, I enjoy being on the other side of the classroom and serving as a resource for students who have questions.”

Beyond consulting, Colby is a 2026 Dean’s Outstanding Student Achievement Award winner and was one of two honors students selected to present at the Business Honors Leadership Conference, reflecting his commitment to leadership within Mays Business School. From helping organize professional development events and studying supply chain to attending a management study abroad program in France, his experiences as a Mays student have uniquely shaped his perspective and fueled his passion for business and consulting.
