Biography
Prior to joining Texas A&M University, Dr. Arreola-Risa worked as a production and inventory control analyst, and later he taught at ITESM (Tecnológico de Monterrey) and at the Foster School of Business, University of Washington. His primary research, teaching and consulting interests are on production-inventory systems with emphasis in supply-chain management and Enterprise Resource Planning, as well as on service operations with emphasis in healthcare delivery.
Dr. Arreola-Risa has taught undergraduate, masters, and doctoral classes. In 2025 he received the Wickham Skinner Teaching Innovation Award from the Production & Operations Management Society. He also received in 2025 the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M University. He has also lectured in executive education programs and consulted for numerous companies in the U.S. and abroad. He is on the CHI St. Joseph Health Board of Directors.
Dr. Arreola-Risa is a member of the Decision Sciences Institute, the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, and the Production and Operations Management Society. His research has been published in the academic journals Computers & Operations Research, Decision Sciences, European Journal of Operational Research, IISE Transactions, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Production Research, Management Science, Naval Research Logistics, Production & Operations Management, and The Journal of the Spanish Society of Statistics and Operations Research.
Dr. Arreola-Risa is co-author of four books: Linear Programming: An Introduction to Quantitative Decision Making (Thomson Learning, 2003); Designing Supply Chains for New Product Development (Business Expert Press, 2013); Introduction to Global Business, third edition (Cengage Learning, 2023); Introduction to Business, fourth edition (Academic Media Solutions, 2024).
