Biography

Dr. James C. Flagg served on the faculty of Texas A&M from 1988 – 2020. Professor Flagg retired in 2020 as associate professor in the Department of Accounting in the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University (PhD 1988). Professor Flagg is a licensed CPA (1978) and taught the undergraduate and graduate auditing courses.  He served on the board, chaired the audit committee, and was a member of the Nominating and Corporate Governance committee for HCC Insurance Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:HCC) until their sale in 2015. He was  a nine-year board member of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA) and chaired the TSBPA’s Qualifications and Licensing committees. He also served on the board of EGL, Inc (NASDAQ: EAGL) and chaired the audit committee until their sale in 2007. In addition, he held a four-year local advisory board position for Commerce National Bank in College Station, Texas. Dr. Flagg was also a senior manager with nine years audit experience (1976-1985) with Coopers & Lybrand (LLP).

Dr. Flagg is a past chair of the American Accounting Association’s Minority Faculty Development Committee and has served on several Departmental and University side committees for Texas A&M University, including the Faculty Senate and the Athletic Council (Chair) (where he is currently a returning member), and the Undergraduate Academic Appeals Panel (Chair). He was a member of the Board of Trustees for Eckerd College, St. Petersburg Florida and a current member of the Eckerd  Presidential Advisory Group. He has published articles dealing with auditing, financial accounting, international, accounting, fraud, and bankruptcy. His research interest also includes Corporate Governance, Enterprise Risk, Information Security Risk, and Audit Quality issues.
