Biography

Jerry Strawser is Professor and KPMG Chair in the James Benjamin Department of Accounting.

From 2022 -2026, he served as Associate Dean for Graduate Programs; during his tenure, Mays launched two new MBA programs (Bahr ’91 Engineering MBA program and Flex Online MBA program) and received improved rankings for the Full-Time MBA program in Bloomberg Businessweek, U.S. News & World Report, and Financial Times. Professor Strawser previously served as Dean of Mays Business School from 2001-2007 and 2008-2014; during his tenure as Dean, he has helped raise over $149 million dollars in commitments for faculty, student, and program support, including support for named chairs, professorships, faculty fellowships, graduate student fellowships, and undergraduate student scholarships. Mays has received national recognition among the top ten public institutions based on the quality of the undergraduate programs, MBA programs, and faculty scholarship and upon his departure from the deanship, was one of only 14 universities (and six public universities) to have both its undergraduate and Full-Time MBA programs ranked in the top 30 by Bloomberg Businessweek and U.S. News & World Report. He also has prior university-level administrative experience as Executive Vice President of Finance and Operations and Chief Financial Officer for Texas A&M University (2014 – 2021) and interim Executive Vice President and Provost (2007-2008).

Prior to his appointment at Texas A&M University, Professor Strawser served as interim Dean of the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston and Arthur Andersen & Co. Alumni Professor of Accounting.During his tenure as Interim Dean, he helped raise over $45 million for the College of Business, including a $40 million gift to rename the College of Business after retired AIM Chairman and co-founder Charles (Ted) Bauer. Professor Strawser has also served on the faculty at Louisiana State University.

Professor Strawser has co-authored three textbooks and over 60 journal articles. He has also presented over 30 papers at national academic conferences. In addition to his academic experience, Professor Strawser had prior public accounting experience at two international accounting firms. He has also developed and delivered numerous executive development programs to organizations such as AT&T, CenterPoint Energy, Chinese Petroleum, Continental Airlines, ConocoPhillips, Halliburton, KBR, KPMG, Minute Maid, PricewaterhouseCoopers, McDermott International, Shell, and Southwest Bank of Texas (now Amegy Bank).

Professor Strawser is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Texas and earned his BBA and Ph.D. in Accounting from Texas A&M University.
