Biography

Dwight Garey ’67 has been involved in the Commercial Banking Program(CBP) as a co-founder since its inception in 2011 serving on the Advisory Board of Directors, the Executive Board, and was head of the Bank Membership Committee.  In 2016, Garey joined the Mays Business School as Executive Director of the CBP, and Professor of Practice/Finance Department.

As Professor of Practice, Garey teaches banking-related courses in Commercial Credit Analysis, Selling Financial Products and Services, and Seminar in Commercial Banking.  As Executive Director of the CBP, he is responsible for all facets of the CBP including recruitment of students and Advisory Board bank members, revenue generation through endowments, and administration of the CBP.

Garey’s career in banking and financial services spans more than 40 years, with 27 years of his banking career in correspondent banking at First City Bank-Houston, and Amegy Bank, N.A. in Houston, Texas.  He managed the Correspondent Banking line of business for Amegy Bank from 2006 to 2016, a regional line of business for a three-state region.  He is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a BBA-Finance degree.  He then earned an MBA degree from the University of Houston – Clear Lake. Garey is also a graduate of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University – Dallas, Texas (SWGSB).  At SWBSB, he was on the Alumni Board of Directors, and was President of the Alumni Board 2012 – 2015.
