Frequently Asked On-Campus Change of Major Questions

Q: Can I meet with a Mays advisor to talk about changing my major to business?

A: We recommend students meet with the Transition Academic Programs Office to discuss your options for changing your major. TAP can walk you through your options, discuss other majors, and help you register for courses to get you on the Map to Mays. If you have additional questions after meeting with TAP, you can come to Wehner 238 on Monday morning from 8:30-11:30 or Thursday afternoon from 1:30-4:30 to meet with a Mays advisor.

Q: Can my AP, IB, or dual credit coursework count toward changing my major?

A: Yes. If you’ve taken some of our qualifying courses, including MATH 140 and MATH 142, at a community college or earned credit for these courses from an AP/IB exam, we consider these qualifying courses complete. The grade you earned in your dual credit course is calculated in your qualifying coursework GPA. No grade points are earned through AP/IB credit.

Q: Will my AP, IB, or dual credit coursework hours affect my chances of getting into Mays?

A: Coursework completed during high school and before you became a college student will not affect your chances of getting into Mays. We will deduct these hours from consideration when reviewing your application.

Q: I applied to A&M as a transfer student and was admitted to a non-business college. Can I change
my major to Business?

A: On-Campus change of major students need to be admitted to A&M during the freshman admissions process. Transfer applicants who accepted admission to a non-business major at Texas A&M will be considered for on-campus change-of-major to Mays by waiver only. Prospective transfer applicants were instructed not to accept admission to a non-business major with the expectation of later requesting change of major to Mays.

Q: Do I need to take BUSN 101 before or after I apply to change my major to business?

A: No, change of major students do not take BUSN 101.
