Biography

Ben Haymond loves learning. He is grateful to have grown up in the internet age when so many new possibilities for education are unfolding. Ben cherishes having meaningful learning experiences himself and loves helping create them for others. He is also highly interested in organizations and institutions–how they form, function, and change.

Ben has an undergraduate degree in political science from Brigham Young University and a masters in instructional technology and learning sciences from Utah State University. As a student, Ben worked on social technology research projects like cleverly using email to glean insights about the intentions of anonymous shell corporations and programming a robot to interact with children in educational interaction scenarios. He also worked in eCommerce and interned for the federal government and the state government in Utah.

A job in operations and training in the corporate sector put Ben on his current career trajectory as an instructional technology specialist and instructional designer. He has appreciated the opportunity to do this at different institutions and observe the varying cultures, attitudes, dynamics, and visions around learning and online learning in particular.

In various initiatives and projects, Ben has extensively used Articulate 360, Microsoft 365, the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Google applications, and Camtasia. He has consulted with faculty and administrators about learner experience, instructional design, and technology implementation. Ben has also provided training and support for tools including the Canvas LMS, Qualtrics, Examsoft, Packback, Turnitin, Perusall, Zoom, and Respondus. He has been thrilled to work with TLI at Mays to develop a carefully calibrated and coordinated instructional design/course development process and a complementary Teaching and Learning course for Flex Online.

Ben lives in College Station with Manisha, his wife of ten years, and their sons Daniel and Micah. In his spare time he loves history, philosophy, classic literature, and many church-related activities.
