Joey is an experienced educator and Instructional Designer based in Cypress, TX. Born and raised in Northwest Houston, he holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Houston and a Master of Education from Lamar University. His passion for transforming education has been the cornerstone of his career.
Joey taught Kindergarten through 7th grade for 13 years in the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District, with a focus on Math and Science. During his time as a teacher, he gamified a full 7th-grade math curriculum, successfully changing how students perceived math. This groundbreaking experience inspired Joey to become an Instructional Coach, a role he held for two years before transitioning to Instructional Design.
In 2014, Joey was selected as one of 50 educators worldwide to participate in the Google Certified Innovator Academy in Austin. There, he collaborated with global peers to learn the Google design process and explore innovative uses of educational technology.
Today, Joey works as an Instructional Designer, partnering with subject matter experts to create accessible, engaging online courses. He excels at bringing adult learning theories to life and incorporating gamification strategies to further enrich learning environments. Passionate about breaking the status quo, Joey thrives on designing educational experiences that are both effective and enjoyable.
