Biography
Dr. Mukherjee earned his Ph.D. in information systems from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining Mays Business School, he was on the faculty at the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University.
His research examines how firms transition from product-based models to multi-sided digital platforms. He studies platform design, innovation, and pricing using a combination of quantitative modeling, experimental methods, and machine learning. His work explores areas such as authentication in matching markets, consumer multihoming, platform preannouncements, subscription pricing, congestion management, digital piracy, and the use of social media data for predictive insights in industries such as healthcare and automotive. Across these domains, his research emphasizes meaningful societal impact.
Dr. Mukherjee’s work has been widely recognized, including runner-up honors for the INFORMS eBusiness Best Paper Award for research on information strategy in two-sided markets and congestion pricing, as well as a Best Paper nomination at ICIS for his work on multihoming platforms. He contributes actively to the academic community by chairing conferences such as the Big 12 MIS Conference, organizing sessions at INFORMS and POMS, and reviewing for leading journals including Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and Production and Operations Management.
In the classroom, Dr. Mukherjee integrates his research into teaching analytics, digital strategy, and data-driven decision-making to both undergraduate and graduate students. His teaching excellence has been recognized with multiple honors, including an Outstanding Teaching Award and BBA Honor Roll at McCombs, the Aaron Becker Memorial Award for graduate teaching excellence at Mays in 2021, and the Montague-CTE Scholar Award in 2026.
Before entering academia, Dr. Mukherjee worked in industry on embedded systems and AI-driven biometric authentication technologies, including video compression and facial, iris, and fingerprint recognition systems. His research has appeared in premier journals such as Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Production and Operations Management, and the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, and has been featured in outlets such as Forbes and Management and Business Review.
