Learn Business Skills to Compliment Your Major
The minor in business consists of six specific courses chosen to develop a foundational knowledge in the basic aspects of business, including accounting, finance, management information systems, management, and marketing.
Academic Overview
How to Register
Registration in courses required for the business minor is on a first-come, first-serve basis. If a minor course is full, the best way to potentially enroll is by monitoring seat availability during the entire open registration period. During the fall/spring semester add/drop is open through 5 p.m. of the fifth class day.

Students applying for a business minor must have a 2.0 or better overall GPA. Application is made in the student’s home college or major department. Students are encouraged to start taking business minor courses as soon as the minor is declared.
Business Minor Course Equivalencies
Lower-level course equivalencies accepted for the business minor include:
- ACCT 209 (TCCNS ACCT 2301 or 2401)
- ISTM 209 (TCCNS BCIS 1305)*
*The Information System CLEP exam is available for students who have not taken ISTM 209 and wish to demonstrate mastery of the course concepts. See your academic advisor for additional information.
All upper-level business minor courses must be taken in residency at Texas A&M or through approved exchange and affiliate provider study abroad programs. No other substitutions or transfer courses are allowed for the business minor.
Note: Starting Fall 2026, MGMT 209 (TCCNS BUSI 2301) will be replaced by MGMT 409. We will continue to accept MGMT 209 (TCCNS BUSI 2301) for any student who took it prior to fall 2026. If you have declared the business minor and an adjustment for the course is not applying to your degree plan, please contact the Mays Undergraduate Advising Office at maysuao@mays.tamu.edu.
Completion Requirements
Your Content Satisfactory Completion: To be awarded the minor in business and receive transcript recognition, students must obtain a grade of “C” or better in each course listed above (or in any transfer courses as specified). Once declared, minor requirements become graduation requirements. Students declaring the minor must meet all requirements as defined in their catalog.
Degree Evaluation: Once declared, minor requirements become graduation requirements. Use Degree Evaluation in Howdy during the graduating semester to certify that all minor in business requirements are being met. The minor in business will be recognized after graduation on the transcript, but not on the diploma.
Advising
A student’s home college or major department is responsible for adding the minor to the student’s curriculum and for advising their students who are pursuing the minor in business. Complete all business minor courses at least one semester before the graduating semester to avoid course conflicts.
