Applications Open | Applications Close | Interview scheduled (if needed) | Student is notified of application decision |
October 14th | November 18th (Friday before Thanksgiving) |
After Thanksgiving break | December 14th (Last day of Fall final exams) |
Applications to express interest in taking the course will open on October 14th and close on November 18th. Depending on demand for the course, applicants may be contacted for an interview after Thanksgiving break which will be completed by the end of final exams. You will be notified if your application was accepted the last day of Fall final exams. This allows you and your advisor to work together and adjust your schedule before the end of Add/Drop for the semester. Our advisors will do their best to help the course fit into your degree plan so it is not an additional course, but this will depend on each student’s individual circumstances. If you are not enrolled in the course the first time you apply, can re-apply to take the course in a later spring semester.
Other tips
- You will need to have your current cumulative and major GPA when you start the application
- You will upload your current resume with the application. If you are completing an upcoming internship in the spring, you can list this on your resume if you wish.
What we look for
We are looking for Accounting majors who are driven and have a track record of excellence inside and outside of the classroom. In order to be eligible for the course, students must be enrolled in or have successfully completed ACCT 327 in the fall semester you apply to take the course. Because students are expected to actively participate in every class, we are also looking for students who have strong communication skills. While the course title does say “financial leadership”, it is not necessary for a student to have substantial prerequisite knowledge about accounting or financial topics. The desire for students to learn and grow from the course is a much more important attribute. Accounting majors in the BBA, PPA (all tracks), and MS-Accounting programs are all eligible to take the course.
If you are sincerely interested in this course but feel like your application may not be strong enough (for example, perhaps you perceive your GPA to be average), we still encourage you to apply and take time to highlight your other strengths and reasons why you desire to take this course.
