Degree Requirements for International Students

The list of equivalent undergraduate degrees accepted by Texas A&M University can be found here. If you do not find your country listed and are unsure of your degree equivalency, please contact us at mbaprograms@mays.tamu.edu before applying for assistance. As stated on the University list, the three-year undergraduate degree from India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan are NOT accepted unless you have also earned a Master’s degree.

Additionally, for Indian students, the Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants final examination is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as the equivalent of an Indian master’s degree for higher studies, if a bachelor’s degree is obtained first. Applicants must complete all requirements and obtain an associate membership through the Institute of Chartered Accounts.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

In addition to the general application requirements, international applicants – those who are not US Citizens or US Permanent Residents at the time of applying – may be required to submit an English language proficiency exam score to be considered for admission.

The MBA program requires one of the following minimum scores to meet the English Language Proficiency requirement:

  • TOEFL (computer-based) – 250
  • TOEFL (paper-based) – 600
  • TOEFL (iBT) – 100
  • TOEFL (Essentials) – 10
  • IELTS – 7.0

Submitted scores must be no more than two years old at the time of submitting the online application for admission.

Texas A&M TOEFL submission code is 6003.

International students who are citizens of the following countries are automatically exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement:

  • American Samoa
  • Anguilla
  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Australia
  • Bahamas
  • Barbados
  • Belize
  • The British Virgin Islands
  • Canada (except Quebec)
  • Cayman Islands
  • Dominica
  • Federated States of Micronesia
  • The Gambia
  • Ghana
  • Gibraltar
  • Grenada
  • Guyana
  • Ireland
  • Jamaica
  • Liberia
  • New Zealand
  • Nigeria
  • Saint Kitts and Nevis
  • Saint Lucia
  • Trinidad/Tobago
  • Turks and Caicos Islands
  • The United Kingdom.

International students who hold an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree from a U.S. institution are automatically exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement.

All other international candidates would be required to submit an English language proficiency exam score, but they can request a waiver of this requirement before submitting the application by following the instructions listed below.

TOEFL/IELTS waiver

The admissions committee will consider requests to waive the TOEFL/IELTS score. Applicants seeking this waiver should apply for admission only after the waiver is granted by the Admissions Committee. Otherwise, an application submitted without a TOEFL or IELTS score will be considered incomplete and will remain inactive until the score is submitted or a waiver is granted.

Typically, the Admissions Committee will respond to your waiver request within one week. However, during times of high application volume, the response may take up to two weeks.

To request a TOEFL/IELTS waiver, send a one-page email to mbaprograms@mays.tamu.edu. A request for a waiver includes ALL of the following information:

  • A copy of your unofficial GMAT or GRE score report (if you have already requested for an official copy to be sent to us, let us know and we will use that).
    • To automatically qualify for a waiver you must have a verbal score of the following:
      • GMAT: 28
      • GRE: 150
    • NOTE: we cannot consider you for a waiver unless we have a copy of your GMAT or GRE score report; if you have not taken the exam yet, please wait to submit the waiver request until you have a score report.
  • Any additional information to support your demonstrated English proficiency

Additional Assistance

International students face a number of issues that require specific information and assistance. While the MBA Program office does all that it can to assist international students, we also rely heavily on the expertise of the International Student Services (ISS) office.

The ISS website provides a significant amount of information to guide international students through the admissions and immigration process. All international students are recommended to visit the ISS website at iss.tamu.edu.
